Attention H.O owners! Carb vent line question.
#1
I have a 2001 HO Sportsman. Yesterday I was changing the main jet and noticed I had only one vent line on the carburator? What...? I looked at my service manual and it shows TWO vent lines with a tee going to the frame.
I checked the picture in the book and compared it to my quad and the carburators are different? WTF...?
I then checked my dads 2000 1/2 Magnum 500 he has two vent lines coming from the rear of the carburator to the frame like the picture in the service manual.
My quad has a vent line on the right hand side of the back of the carburator and a black cap on the left... with NO TEE ?
Question is this: Are your HO's the same as mine, and did Polaris screw up and just show a picture of a 34mm carb instead of a 40mm carb in the service manual?
Next question I have is what will happen if I put a tee in myself and route it like the factory picture in the service manual? These breather tubes help float bowl pressure in the carb.
I will be calling my dealer on monday to find out more on this new situation.

I am running the K&N filter right now.
I just changed my winter jetting from 157.5 back to stock 152.5 with the 157.5 in warm weather was just too much. I pulled the plug and it was very dark. Now for winter riding the 157.5 is awesome.
I was thinking of running a 155 jet this summer that is one step larger than stock.
When I have more time I am going to supertune my HO. But to do this requires splitting the recoil case to check and see how far the timing is advancing.
I am also going to try that carburator vent line tee mentioned in the above post.
Other than that I have a Polaris cargo box "The black box that rocks", hand guards, heated grips, mirror, fuel pack, custom latches, trailer ball with tow hook ring in rear, tow hook in front, custom tow strap hooks on back of cargo box.
BTW I had my Victory on a Dyno Jet 250 dyno for a HP run did 68 HP at the rear wheel. Pretty strong for a 99 Vic.
There was a 117 cu in harley TC88 there that did 127HP they had two guys sitting on it because he was spinning the drum too fast.
