The standard 250cc TB engine has 22 HP but the Cyclone has 30 HP. I know that the standard TB had a 30 mm Carb and the Cyclone has a 34 mm carb. What other engine differnces are there between the two...does anyone know???? Also I know that there is a Trailboss R/SE that makes 27 HP. Does anyone know the engine differences here also? Who would have the engine specs for these models??

Thanks,
Mark

What specs do you want to know. The Trailboss R/ES had a huge carburetor, a 38mm on a 244cc engine! Some other differences is I think different ground ports and a different head giving it the extra hp. You're right on the Cyclone's carb, it has a 34mm one. I would imagine the porting and the head would be the same on the Cyclone or better as on the Trailboss R/ES. Both of these machines also had a real high clutch engagement, giving them more acceleration.

Boner, a Cyclone is an older Polaris ATV. It was built in 1987 and that was the only year. It had separately controlled brakes and made 30hp. They are very rare, I seen one once at an ATV pull and that was it. To sum it up, it was a souped up Trailboss.

I GOT TO RIDE A CYCLONE ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO. I WAS TRAIL RIDING IN EASTERN KY. WHEN A GUY PULLED UP ON A POLARIS I HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE.WE STARTED TALKING AND IT WAS A 87 CYCLONE .HE WAS ASKING ABOUT MY MAG 500 AFTER TALKING A WHILE I LET HIM RIDE MINE AND I RODE HIS. THE CYCLONE WAS VERY QUICK NOT MUCH TOP END BUT VERY QUICK. HE HAD THE THING SINCE IT WAS NEW AND SAID HE HAD GOTTEN GOOD SERVICE OUT OF IT. IT'S A STRANGE LOOKING MACHINE BUT IT SEEMED TO RUN PRETTY WELL AND I ENJOYED RIDING IT.

What is different about the ports and the head? How are the ports ground and what did they do to the head? I think the compression is the same for them all. How much higher of a clutch engagement is there also?

Thanks,
Mark

well u see i have 2 1987 polaris cyclones. i love them. the one is completly stock with the exception of spider track rear tires and a uni air filter, but the other one is all modded out. its bored out to 300cc`s, ported polished, super swamper rear tires, my own custom clutch kit, pro-5 pipe, 38mm mikuni carb, etc. they are both pretty quick. my dad used to mudbog race the modded one in the pro mod mud bog atv dragson the bf goodwrench circuit. he was the champ for the 89-90 season on it.

what cyclone are you guys talking about? actually i am serious mine is bored out to a 300 but its not reliable at all and it doesnt go very fast if you hit a jump your done and i find it very hard to belive that it make 30hp my 300ex burns it in every aspect and i mean every one , one thing i can say is it was a good quad to learn on and it was nice for long trailrides if it was still running and i did take good care of it

Well, the Cyclones are old and yours probably needed a top end rebuild.

Could someone post a picture of a cyclone? (not the one with swirling winds)
