I just read all the Problems that Xplor has been having with his Super Scrambler (Sorry to hear about that by the way). I just bought the 42mm TMX carb kit from Hot Seat Performance and I'm getting a little worried. Right now I have a 1998 Sport with the RcR Stage 1 Kit on it. No other mods. I have minimal knowledge of quads so please bare with me. If I add the new carb to I have to worry about leaning the engine out? And what about the jet's? Can I use the ones that came with the RcR kit or not? I think it's a 270? The quad seems to run fine now with the kit on it if that's any help. I live in Vermont and my elevation is 533ft I guess (according to topozone.com). Temperature varies by a lot here. It could be 60 one day and 90 the next. In the Summer it usually stays around 75-85 or so. I ride trails a lot, but also ride open areas. I'm putting the carb on for more performance so if I have to do something that is just going to eliminate it I might as well just not put it on. Thank you guys a ton for your help.

Josh, I may be wrong on this but I think it's the porting that makes the quad run hotter and a lot of people have been having problems with jetting the 39mm carb also. I am by no means an expert but spending money and asking tons of questions has made me more knowlegeable than my crummy dealer.
Here's a bit of information: I read, over the past year, that the 42mm carb is too big for a trail modded or trail piped 400. Just an observation I have made reading these posts since last March. I had no problems what so ever jetting my 400 when it was just Piped. I always learn things the hard way too. Spend the 100$ and get the EGT to see if your quad is at the right exaust temperature. Witht this, jetting is made easy and precise from what the guys in here say. I sure hope so. Hey Brian,
I deffinatly know what you are talking about. I had the same problems with my sleds this past winter. You spend a lot of money and it sure does teach you a lesson. Luckily I've got the power of the internet to at least tell me what to expect. I am grateful to everyone here, because as I said, my knowledge is limited. So do you think I could lose performance using a 42mm carb rather than a 39mm? My logic was that if I get the 42mm now I may not see any more of a gain than if I used a 38 or 39mm, but at least If I ever did add some other mods I'd have a bigger carb to go with them. Does that sound stupid? After typing it, it sounds dumber than when I was thinking it . You aren't extremely far from where I live so if there comes a day that you consider selling your Scram let me know!!! Blown motor or not I would love to get my hands on that thing. If anything, I'd love to get you hooked up with my friend on his Banshee so you can lay the smack down on him. He thinks that he has the best quad in the world (everybody has opinions). Theres nothing wrong with a Banshee, they are great quads, but when people are arrogant, that's what bugs me. So again, sorry to hear about your problems. Wish I could help, but I don't know anything about these things. Good luck, and thanks for the help. -Josh |
From what I have understood on these forums is that the 42mm flow too much air. "People" say that the 39mm flows more than the motor would ever need, even with motor mods.
If you want the Scrambler I would "most likely" (wife has her word to say though)sell it at the price I owe to the bank plus about half the mod costs. I have only paid one year on the loan so far but with Canadian exchange rate it could be worth it. Didn't think I would say yes eh?? LOL |
LOL....talk to your wife, come up with a price and let me know. If you really don't want to sell it, then that's fine too. I'd put all the mods into mine, but I don't trust any mechanics down here when it comes to high performance stuff. Keep in touch.
