From my expereince the scrambler once hopped up can take just about all normal quad's. In my riding group they are the king of the roost The only thing that they aren't the best but second is the mud run they come in right behind the the Xplorer
Got to hit those trails hard!!

Banshee Boy 2001,
What will a stock 500 or 400 Scrambler out run? Only sport (not high performance) quads smaller than it, like a 300EX, Warrior, wolverine, Mojave, etc...
What will a modified Scrambler 400 out run? Just about anything shy of a full race TRX 330R like Raptors, DS650s and 400EXs. They will even beat all but the most modified Banshees (400cc +). Just ask A400L. He's B.T.D.T.

Mike: BTDT? I now reside in Arizona, hence the name change to AZ400L
Anyway, a worked Scrambler 400 can outrun just about anything you want it to, providing your pocket book can keep up as well.
HPD has a kit for about $1500 that covers all the motor work giving you about 70-72HP at the crank. A plethera of other weight saving accessories can be had as well.
Many find it hard to believe, but it is very true.
Mike: At present my motor is enroute to HPD for the 72HP makeover, although I will be using a G-Force pipe instead, keeping the 39PWK, and replacing the roller with an HPD kit. Hope make it to Glamis for Halloween!! Got to go about two weeks after I moved out here with Eric Bellinger. His bike made mine look like a slug, and several other bikes at Comp Hill!!!

AZ400L,
OOPS! Sorry I didn't know you changed your username. BTDT (Been There, Done That).
Geez, it must be nice to have all of that sand out there. Are they still riding the dry river beds, or have they closed them off due to "sand erosion"? They were quite popular when I was out there (1983-88). I'd like to go back out there, but with work and all it keeps me pretty much in state.

With the move and getting setteled I haven't had much time to ride, but there are tons of small areas to ride locally. Hell you can even license your quad to make it street legal here, with some additional equiptment.
I'm going to take my time and use the summer for the rebuild and hit the dunes hard this winter. I'll post updates at Jack's place, but with the bike apart I don't have much to tell for awhile. Look for some input late October! I'll also update my web page with new pics when she is re-assembled, the trimmed up plastic and G-Force pipe reall look good!!

What ever RideRed04 is smoking I want some.
I have a 99 Scrambler 400 that is stock except for a K&N filter and I ride with a friends who have a 400 EX a Banshee and a DS 650 racing up step hills the banshee is the only one faster than me and on a flat out drag race I beat the 400 EX by about 2 Quads we have never raced past 60 MPH. We have tried changing drivers many times with the same result. The 400 EX does have the best all around suspension but the DS 650 has the most plush ride of all the quads and is the one I like to ride the most.

My old '96 Scrambler stock would beat a Warrior and 300 EX.
Now with an RCR Stage 1 kit I can keep up with a 400 EX.
But then you have to figure in that a Scrambler is much heavier then those machines....plus can go throught 5 times more mud then them with 4WD!
