why are magazines so amazed at locking front diffs?

I just picked up the newest ATV Action mag, and was reading through the review of the Grizzly 660... I read this and laughed...
"Making the Griz even more at home in the rocks is the unbeatable differential lock option. We would intentionally get the 660 into the position of having one of the front wheels in the air, spinning pointlessly while the rear wheel spin in vain, trying to find traction, and the grounded front wheel is motionless. Then, we flick the switch to lock the differential and the Grizzly immediately crawls out of the predicament. It's truly amazing and works exactly like it's supposed to."
Why is it that actually having all 4 wheels spinning is such an amazing phenomenon? I've had true 4WD since I bought my Xplorer, and its nothing "truly amazing" to me... just handy. I can also go an awful lot faster than 22mph, which is apparently all the Grizzly is good for with the differential locked...

Hello there Campy from up here in the county. I must agree with you, I don't see why all the magazines are falling all over themselves bragging about all this socalled inovation in the new Grizz.
I wish there we're an ATV mag that wasn't just a regurgitation of the companies fliers. that Grizz has Suzuki front differential, Polaris Suspension, a so-called better version of polaris belt drive(if you like the jake brake on a truck you'll love the motter noise).
I've said it before and I'll say it again If it weren't for Polaris we would still be riding around on the same old bottom draggin ,stait axle, over heating aircooled, three wheel spinning, stuck in the mud, back breakin, poor handling, cable braked, PIECES OF CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!
I digress.
The new Yamaha grizz does look like it will be a great machine because it is so much like the old SPortsman and so not like the old Fizzly
now that i've riled up the yamiguys i must go
campy do you know a guy named kilinger from bangor area if you do say hi. he knows where the all the good holes are

As far as I can see, Yamaha seems to be a company that acts too quickly in most situations.
Other companies begin releasing high performance sport quads (Honda 400EX, namely, but Bombardier's DS650 was also in the works), so it seemed as though they just said, "QUICK! Find a HUGE engine from one of our European bikes, make up a frame and some funky looking plastic... YEAH! NICE! Okay, send it into production!" without stopping to make sure everything worked fine... just as long as they got it out.
Same for the first generation Grizzly... "Ohh man, everybody's releasing bigger bore utility quads... lets one up everybody else with a bigger engine, IRS, and engine braking, AND FAST!"
How many years had the Rubicon and Prairie 650 been in developement? And suddenly Yamaha puts out a new utility quad, 10 whole ccs more than the current largest.
Is Yamaha making their 4-wheelers to be great 4-wheelers, or so they can say, "The largest production utility ATV on the market today."?
4xWhore, I don't actually live in Bangor, I just say that I do for anonymity. I actually live a good little jaunt away from Bangor (but I'm not far enough away to say that I live in the greater Augusta area or anything, lol). However, if I do bump into a kilinger anywhere (on the streets or in the forums), I'll be sure to say hello.
