Anyone use the HPD Super duty Clutch button kit?
#1
Hi guys, Its time for a new belt and I have been running my HPD aggressive clutch kit for about a year now with no problems, Im going to order the HPD kevlar belt and figured it might be wise to go ahead and replace my stock buttons before they break, I was just hoping I could get a little insight from anyone who is using these now and see how they are holding up? From the pics the look alot stronger and dont seem to have an special installation? Anyways just fishing for some info so let me know

I don't know about the buttons, but I've used the kevlar belt for 2 weeks at the dunes and have yet to notice wear on post ride inspections. The belt is much harder and stiffer feeling than the stocker, thats why I'm keeping an eye on the clutch surfaces.

I have run both the buttons and the roller clutch from HPD. There is no comparison to how much happier I am with the roller. Not only the fast and smooth upshift, but the instant backshift does wonders for woods blasting, and all around riding. A big thumbs up on the grin factor.

I converted from an AAEN roller to the SS button kit after stepping up to the full race mod set up. I was very happy with the roller, but had concerns about the roller holding up to the torque of repeated launches at 4500RPM's. Plus AAEN didn't have the helix angle I wanted availabe for the roller.
The Install was simple, although it does require you do a bit of drilling. I forget the bit size, but you need to drill the existing hole through the back, as the SS button kit comes with longer and beefier screws to secure them. It's all spelled out in the instructions and is quite simple.
I haven't had it apart in about six months, but don't think anything is amiss in there. Besides, replacement pads are only like $2-3 each.

Todd, the beauty of it all is that the "machining of the clutch is the same on the buttons as on the roller for the HPD products. It is not necessary, but if you have the access to someone who can mill the part, it's much more accurate. Also (this also depends of the level of accuracy you want) you can use a drill guide available at any machinist's supply for backdrilling the pilot holes. The guarentees the bit not to do any angular walking. The HPD roller is also a much heavier duty unit than the AAEN. Really a day and night call when you hold them up to each other.
