Cold weather Questions on 700's
 

Do any of you out there have any problems with your 700 starting when cold? The last week or so (around 0 degress or alittle above) the starter acts like it has a flat spot.It has always started but I think if it gets colder it won't.
Once it starts it will not idle.I have to run it until it is up to temp then shut it off for acouple of mins then start it back up,then it runs fine. It has been doing the same thing for more then a week. It acts as if the choke is on,but it is not.

Any ideas ?

Maybe try a little Iso-Heet in the fuel. Could be you have some water-diluted gas. I usually keep our machines plugged into a Yuasa “battery tender” type charger during the winter months to keep the batteries performing well. This may or may not cure your starter woes but at least you’d know whether or not the battery is the problem.

I note my s400 acts a bit like that when ever the battery is going even a little low. I think I'm about to find out my battery is about to die....

On the idle thing, perhaps the pilot jet is a bit to lean. the "acts like the choke is on" sorta denies that, but then I don't quote believe an angine doesn't need some choke when starting from 0, so I kinda question what's going on.

i just ran my 03' sp700 for the last 5 days in temps from -5 to about 35 degrees. mine won't idle either untill it warms up. i have to keep on the throttle a little bit to keep it running. after about 3 to 5 minutes it will run on it's own. once i heard what sounded like a flat spot in the starter, but it hasn't done it again. i attribute this to being so new ( 35 miles) and everything is still tight. hope i'm right. a heater block doesn't help me when i'm staying at the cabin with no electricity. good luck.

Ditto my 03 600 is fairly cold blooded. I found that pulling the choke all the way out to start and then pushing in until the rpm's rise seems to help.

My '03 SP 700 is very cold blooded, it will not idle until it is warm. Would it help if I increased the idle speed?

Yoopermike, how soon does your fan turn on when you are running your SP 700 in the cold?

yes it would. Try 1300 rpm on a warm engine

I used to own a 03 700 and it wouldn't idle for its life when its time to go hunting in the early snowy morning of NH about 0-10 degrees.I would have to sit by the machine playing with the throttle and the choke, if I didn;t it would just stall. That was the reason I upgraded to EFI, I jst go turn the key and go inside to dress up, never worring that the machine will stall. But yes I had constant trouble with my old 700, it took maybe 15 minutes to "warm-up".
