SP 700 won't idle
My 2002 SP 700 will not idle. There is a little story to go with it.
Last weekend I went thru the ice on a river, and the 700 was under completely under water for a few hours. Once we were able to winch it out, I brought it home to a heated garage. I have changed the oil twice, the rearend, tranny, and hub fluid once. I drianed all the gas, and put in fresh gas with dry gas in it. The problem is that I couldn't get at the drain screw for the carb, so I completely unscrewed and removed the idle adjustment screw so I could get better access to the carb drain screw. After I put everything back together with new fluids, it will not idle. I can turn the idle screw, and it will idle way to high, or it will stall out, there is no in between adjustment. Did I trash my carb by removing the idle adjustment screw? Everything else works fine except it will not idle. Help please! John |

On the Pilot Screw, there is a O-ring, washer and spring, in that order. Did you loose any of them. Did you put them back in order. This will effect your idle if one is missing.

HI John you know sportsman's are not designed to be used as submarines.
I found out the hard way put my 2003 500 thru the ice in a lake. It was down for two hours. These are things I learned. The fuel filters will have to changed along with what you have already done . mine would only idle and won't get enough gas to move it self. unlike your 700 that won't idle. another thing your throttle cable will freeze up when you take it back out side this is not good. it freeze's up at the bottom not the top. For your question about the idle srew i have no idea ; but when you find out let the rest of us in on it. good luck John 2003 sportsmann 500 ho 2003 kodiak 450 2003 breeze |

I do not remember seeing a o-ring, but I may have lost it.
I went to partsland.com and looked up under the carb area for the 700. I only see item # 32, the adjusting screw, item # 33 the washer or ring ( it is metal ), and item # 34 the big spring, so it doesn't look like I am missing anything. If I take the adjusting screw out again, can you tell me wjat should be on it, and in what order? A few more questions. Mine runs fine under full throttle, so do I need to replace the gas filter? If so, where is it? When I drained the tranny fluid, a white, gray fluid would only drip out, and not very much came out. Is this normal? I refilled it with Mobil 1 gear lube. Thanks. John |

The pilot screw is only good up to 1/4 throttle, so if it runs good after that, just leave it alone. The pilot screw is for idle to 1/4 throttle, so this sounds like the problem. The order for putting back the pilot screw is first the O-Ring, then the washer, then the spring, then the pilot screw. I would see if any are missing, because this will effect your idle if one is missing.

Can you look on www.partsland.com , and give me the item numbers that you are talking about. I want to make sure I understand what you are saying.
Thanks. John |

He is referring to the idle mixture screw part #31 and you are talking about the idle adjustment screw part#32. 2 different parts

Could the throttle cable free play cause this problem?
