Well, they say numbers speak for themselves, so I'm going to bring it to everyone's attention. I know I'm going to get ragged for this one, but it makes for some good conversation. Obviously Polaris cant be all that bad. If you look at the posts from the other brands, you will find that Yamaha and Honda have more question posts than we do. Quite a bit more in fact. For them to be the pieces of junk that everyone thinks they are that sure is interesting.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

Polaris makes great quads. We have 5 of em, and they're all fine machines. Each in their own way. I love my Predator, gonna ride it for 10 straight days, starting Friday. Down in them mountains in Tennessee.

I always thought that a lot of the reasons for the 'reliability' of some of those machines was due to a lack of features/options, and when they started making them more complex, they would have more troubles.
Take my Fourtrax, for example. It is 2wd, and is basically an engine, 5 speed gearbox, and wheels. I guess technically, there is suspension under there too, but it is hard to tell when riding on it. It has been extremely reliable (only replaced 2 batteries) but on the other hand, there just isn't much to go wrong. The engine might last almost forever, but high performance, it isn't.
My Xplorer, on the other hand, has needed a few parts replaced. However, the CV boots I replaced don't exist on the Fourtrax, and I think the extra strain on the steering components helped wear out the tie rod ends quicker. I did replace the belt, but it went over 5000 miles. A small price to pay for the performance of the 400 engine, smooth riding suspension, and 4wd.

I agree with the statement that Polaris is a good machine however I disagree on the posting numbers as a guage. Polaris used to be well ahead of Yamaha until the Raptor came out and I don`t think all the posts were about problems (a few in the beginning) mostly the performance oriented guys asking a lot more questions about speed upgrades than anything else.

I wonder if Dirty Wheels is gonna start ragging on the Suzuki for bending and breaking frames? That sure seems to have bumped up their numbers. And the level of "transients" to the Polaris side sure has increased with the Predator.

Riding the Predator will make a believer out of one...and wait until it warms up. The Predators are going to be raising some eyebrows and raising some roost!!!

only thing really that the japenese companies have on polaris is less weight, it seems that more people have honda and other jap companies because they are more talked about. in atv magezines you only hear or read about honda, suzuki, cannondale, kawasaki. and never about polaris, bombardier, and arctic cat. here just the same as any other, but every company has there advantages and disavantages. and polaris's disavantages are there weight. there all about reliability.

our family has a '94 425 explorer and a 2001 500HO. They are nice rides when they are <u>running</u>. We get it out of the shop and undoubtedly after a few rides, we have to take it back in for something different.

I personaly won't buy anything but japenese atv's, atleast for now. Polaris sure does know how to make sleds but their atv's need to catch up.

LOL, well to each his own but I will never again buy one of their sleds talk about down time all I did with my polaris sleds was work on them and they are slow. And that is why I am still worried about investing in a new Predator (reliability concerns are the only things holding me back from buying one tomorrow).

I have ridden all my quads in the same aggressive manner and I must say that the problems that I had with my 01 scrambler 4x4 were quite unexpected and dissapointing. The quality just wasn't there. Parts were not breaking, but wearing out way sooner than I personally think that they should have. Who makes an atv that wears, not breaks, but wears out swingarm bushings, sprockets, hub seals and steering shaft bearings all before the machine had 200hrs onit. These are all things you can find on any other 4x4-sport or regular sport ATV and I sure don't think of these items as being industry firsts by any means. You don't hear about those kind of problems with a quad with so few hours made by other makers of atv's. Sorry. I am done with Polaris Atv's. Quality is what sells me on a bike not fixing it every weekend even if the warranty is pretty good. I sure am happy with their sleds however as previously mentioned. Too bad about the quads.
