Pred paddle tire question

I was thinkin about getting some Kenda Geckos for my Predator. They come in 21x11-8,9,10. I dont know what is better...small wheel or bigger wheel. I've heard that you get more flotation from an 8 in. wheel, but you get more bite with a 10 in. wheel. So what is better more flotation or more bite in the sand?? Any advice? Thanks

I agree, get skat-trak haulers. 20-10-8, 16lbs each with 1.90 aluminum rims. They are light and get great hook up.

Everyone I've seen with Gecko's on higher horsepower bikes do not like them.
I am running Sand Skate II's on mine (10" wheel), they defiantly hook the power to the sand.....

Well, I ordered Geckos today despite everyones apparent disliking. They look to me like they should hook up pretty good. I wasn't looking to drop $250 for tires I am using once a year and at mud drag races. I hope they are here before the weekend though and will let you know how they perform for me.

Hey which paddles also give great straight line climbing traction and good turning? This is why I was looking at the geckos because they were supposed to do that, but i might be wrong. Will the Sand Skate II's do this?? Also what about the GBC Sand Sharks...arent those just like the SSII's? If I were to get the Sand Skates or Hauler's, 8 or 10 in. wheel? Thanks

geckos aren't the best choice but for a cheap tire they are ok, and yes i have a set, they went on the kids blaster. i still think they are the ones as far as cheap tires go

The Sand Skate II's are a very good all around tire, much better than the Sand Sharks. I would run the 10" wheel, mainly because they look better.

Sand tire test

As far as a cheaper tire thats comparable to the Gecko (IN PRICE ONLY!), Jims Sand toys in Waynoka sells the Turbo paddle, its a straight paddle, molded, 8 paddles, mounted on rims for $159.00. This tire hooks up well enough we had to take them off of two 400ex's as they were bogging the motors down. I would have put them on the Predator but I had the Skate II's already.

Jim's
They are not listed on his website but give em a call...

Firehawk1970 - I know your coming to Snake Hunt, just pay for and pickup your tires @ Jim's when you arrive. People do it all the time.............
Oh, strongly consider fronts for a Predator, mine would not turn with the sand tires on the back!

Thanks for the info. I'll probably get the SII's with the 10 inch wheel. Does it really make a difference on the SSII with a 8 or 10 inch wheel? Thanks alot

I went with the strait Roosters on Douglas Ultimate wheels. Haven't tried them on sand yet, but plan to at the Snake hunt. The wheel and tire are suprisingly light for such a durable combo.

I hope the Razr fronts will work well in the sand.

firehawk1970 crap you should have ordered the paddle masters if your playing in the mud! has anyone seen how thick the paddle is? i bet you could use it for a dirt tire! lol

i forgot about those turbo paddles my brother has those, and they do work good , they seem heavy also but they are tuff, although i did notice some chunks missing after our last ride. he has both geckos and turbos and the sad truth is he still wishes he had got haulers. i've rode a predator with 20" 9 paddle and they worked great that is what i would recommend.

I ran the geckos on my Pred. for one weekend...they seemed to work okay, but I am gonna switch to either a reg. straight paddle, or a v-groove style...the geckos just seemed very heavy.

I am gonna run them on my Banshee tho...it should be making more than enough power to turn them.

Iwent with the cheap dune runners from Rocky Mountain ATV. They seem to work O.K.
I have edge v's on my banshee and they are a real good all around tire. they are a little more agressive than the SSII's (even with 6-7 pounds)but let the air down a little and they hook great for dragging. Both of the tires i got are 22" 10's so i can swap em if i dont like the way the straights work out on the pred. Now.. Before i got my Pred in November, I talked to a Factory guy that was Cruisin around with several predators. He had two identical bikes and he said that he ran 10 paddle 10" on one and 8 paddle 10" on the other (20" tall on both) and he said that the Predator had the nads to pull the 10 paddles and in fact worked "quite a bit better" than the 8's.
It really depends on what your trying to accomplish. Drags- 22x10x10 / all around and slide- SSII's or edge. really want to slide with alot less hill or drag ability? sand sharks!
I'd still reccomend going to a 22" cause you can inflate or deflate to conditions better than 20's and you get more floatation.

Hey I ended up getting the Sand Skate II's. Does anybody know what pressure i should run on them?? It says not to go past 30 but that seems like a lot. Any info?
Thanks

thanks vilnrk,

uh should i run different pressures for different types of sand? I mean wet sand and dry sand, or does it make a difference? Thanks

nah...with the ssII it should really make much difference. they get good traction anyhow

5 psi sound about right. I run mine at 4-6 depending on what I want to do. Lower psi gives you grip, while higher psi lets you trow sand.
Watch running them to low if you plan on jumping. I was running mine at 1-2 psi for awhile. I bent my rim 4 time. One time it actually made a u shape in the rim. never busted a bead though. good luck I guess.

How do those padla brats work for u? Does the stock pred have enough to run those 9's? Also, where the heck did u get them - I'm having a heck of a time finding them. Rockymountainatv doesnt carry them. I'm looking for a good drag tire for the sand up hills and those look like they hook up well. One other q - do they cost more than the skat haulers?

Thanks alot, and btw this is my first post - buying a new pred on april 3rd (thats when ive got the cash
