Engine size for 12 to 16 year olds
This completely depends upon experience and ability. There are 12 year-olds that can handle a 500 no problem and there are 16 year-olds that can't handle a 90.

I don't think it matters as long as you are responsible and experienced

The "Democratic" Government will make all of your choices for you. You have no say in the matter at all. Your votes don't matter to them. Age limits don't address rider size, maturity, or proficiency. Some 12 year olds are better suited to a bigger ATV than some 16 year olds. There really isn't a single size that fit's everyone 12-16.

I would say B or C.
But there are variables as previously stated. The 90cc is way too small and I'm not talking engine size, I'm talking the overall size of the ATV. My Daughter is 14 and would be eating her knees on a 90cc. The engine size is also questionable, but the ATV itself is just too small. They can keep the cc low while still building the ATV larger so it fits the rider. If the rider's body is too big for the ATV, than how do you expect the person to handle the ATV properly? The ATV has to fit the person (height and weight) to be safe. Too much focus on engine size and not enough focus on the overall ATV is the real problem. My Daughter has aslo ridden my Wife's Recon which is a 229cc. I'm not saying the cc is too big, but the ATV is a little too big for her. I would like to see a 125cc and possibly even a 200cc, but most important, I would like to see the ATV itself grow with the cc so it will fit the rider. Just my 2 cents. |

if one of those then c. but I would at least consider a 300.

Anything less than a 250cc in a 4-stroke is just not enough for anything. A 250 4-stroke is practically a dog, anyways. They will make PLENTY of torque for trail riding and hill climbing, but they are nothing dangerous.

For just throwing someone 12 - 16 on a quad for the first time i would say 125cc would be more than plenty but with some kind of certification program a 250 would be okay as well. |

@ 12yrs old I wason a mod. 175MX and could drive my aunts 67 olds all over the roads on Pensacola Beach.. ------BUT------ I agree with you Sidewinder, My wife has a 08 A/C 250 *4 stroke* and with me on it @ 180 lbs almost sitting the gas tank, nail the throttle and it WILL flip within 15ft. @ 12/13 years old, maybe 100 lbs. and very little training, inexperianced kids can and do get hurt or die. I don't believeany of these are too underpowered to hurt or kill kids. Its very hard to group kids together when it comes to #1 a hell of alot of common sense to keep your butt off the ground. My ten year old daughter rides a 250 but I can limit the throttle, she always wears a helmet and very intense training. NEVER unsupervised. Sorry about that Dragginbutt.. |
