How long have you been riding ATVs for?

Hey guys,

Just wondering, how long you've been riding your quads for. Did you pick this up recently, or have you been getting stuck in mud for all your life?

at first, it was a way to get around while hunting. then the kids wanted in on it along with my wife. we starting buying them up to enjoy as a family. quads give each member a sense if independence while riding as a group or whatever. money well spent for time with my family. THEN, learned to work on them just in case one of the quads went down while out and about. this website is a God-send. i hope i've helped others as much as others have helped me. my family is worth every penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar i spend on this hobby. i have no regrets. thanks....

Back in about 1979 I first rode my neighbors cousin's ATC into a small tree in their front yard and broke the tree. My next time on an ATV was in 2002 when I did an ATV tour on a ranch in Colorado. I just bought a pair of used ATV's for my son and I this April.

I've been riding for 14 years but my skills haven't improved much during that time.

Rode my cousin's Hondas back around 80 or so. Rode a friend's Big Red 3 wheeler for a few years and then a Honda Recon they had at their property. Bought my own starting about 8 years ago or so and been riding since. Do a lot of work with my X2 also.

It's been less than a year and a whole lot learned. I've ridden a crotch rocket for 7 years and decided I wanted another outdoor hobby. Picked up my first Rubicon and it was a piece of crap that had been sunk and in desparate need of work. But I didn't know and the guy I took with me wasn't as knowledgeable about quads as I thought...but still appreciate he helped me and picked it up. Sold it and bought another Honda a few weeks later...in MUCH better condition with mods. I rode beyond my capabilities the first time I went to a park and ended up smashing into a tree while night riding with limited visibility. Ever since then, I just got more comfortable and careful about who I ride with and have really built my skill and love riding! I recently took the ATV safety course because it was free, but didn't learn much new stuff.

Originally bought for farm use. Asked friends with a rural cabin and timber for permission to ride on their property. Developed a small set of trails for novice riders on their property. Ten years later, they own 4 of their own, added additional land, and many trails.

1997

Brought an 87 Warrior back to life after sitting in a friends yard for 3 years. After 3 months and $300 or so in parts I got it running pretty good. Sold it and didn't have one again till 2006. Got a Prairie 360 and my son got a 250 Suzuki LTZ. Rode the Kaw over 2000 trail miles and got a 2010 Outlander XT 650, now this is a "real" machine!
