I would start with the rectifier(regulator) first as that is usually the issue. make sure to check your connections that they are not all corroded and puts di-electric grease on hem to keep them...

welcome. you do need to change out both clutches as well as a new non ebs belt. they all work together to make the ebs work.

did you check the clearance on the etc on the throttle? if too tight it will make the override kick in as well. it's a full throttle protection mode.

basically Polaris went to the new style roller cage cv the hubs. the hub style (imo) more realizable as long as they are maintained where as the new roller (as mentioned in the front end) are easier...

you nailed what I was going to suggest that a lot of us did which is using the rtv gasket material or silicone to prevent water getting in as that is a belt killer. good luck with it for sure.

the covers were known to have warping issues which makes not fit together such as yours. not a real good design since clutches expel a lot of heat in them causing the warping issues.

how does the plug look, wet? with 2 strokes it could be the carb, but could be lack of compression as well. do a compression check if you can and it should be around 125 psi but no lower then 100....

we have also found buying the belt for the 700's work well as they have groves in the top to help cooling but not sure if it would fit that old 500.
