Default Trouble Shoot Chinese ATV

So I have a nearly new Coolster ATV. It sat for almost 2 years. So It needed to be tuned up. So far
I replaced the carb, air filter, fuel filter, changed oil, changed gas, replaced selenoid, battery, and spark plug.
I burned the starter out trying to start it before doing the above.
Put in new starter, started it once and then it over heated. Mechanic friend said sometimes starters are just bad out of the box.
Replaced the starter again, turned over a couple times and now it won't even turn over. Just click click click from selenoid.
Tried the jump the selenoid and still does not turn over.
Checked and battery is at 12V.
Every time I try to start the thing the battery and starter both get really hot to touch.
I'm assuming electrical problem?
I'm at a loss!!!!
Any suggestions?

Will it turn over with spark plug removed?

It just helps narrow the possible issues...the pistons are tiny in those things, you shouldn't be burning up anything to turn it over. If it doesn't spin freely with the plug out that's not a good sign...

I'd have the starter load tested as well to make sure it's not drawing too many amps...

ok thank you so very much for the tips. When I get home I will take out the plug and try to start it and test the starter. I'll keep you posted.

A battery at 12v is an almost dead battery, should read a minimum of 12.6 volts to be fully charged. The 12volt rating is a nominal number, a fully charge battery in good condition will hold between 12.6 and 12.8 volts.

Default Continued

So I was able to get the ATV started.
The gear chain was locked so it was getting hot because it kept trying to send power to start.
Now the chain in the gear box is knocking against metal
ANY IDEAS? Do I have to adjust it somehow?
