Magnum 325 static compression
Newby here
Was wondering if anyone knows the static compression spec for 2001 Magnum 325. I have 185 psi. think its way too much, unit starts up fine idles fine just cleaned carb and replaced intake boot stutters past pilot jet but will run good with air box lid off. Thanks in advance!

Don't have specs on the 325,but the 330 shows between 72-90 psi because of the decompression device. Both cams are similar.Could be a problem with it on your cam, carbon build up can also raise compression in some, etc. If it cranks easy, runs good,I wouldn't worry all that much about it. Most won't run well with out the air box though. One reason it may is if you happened to enlarge the main jet or pilot during cleaning as some have done or the needle and seat could be worn, float setting off allowing a little more fuel. Or if you've adjusted the pilot screw that's under the block off plug on the carb. This was a lean area for the most part on a lot of Magnums and Trail Bosses.I'm still a firm believer in rebuilding not just cleaning carbs. Especially one that's 17 years old.Try the air box on and see how it does. If you need a good kit,Shindy makes the best.https://www.ebay.com/itm/Shindy-Carb...haAzc9&vxp=mtr

Thanks, Old Tech, but cleaned carb using Ultrasonic cleaner tank, and used shindy kit as well. w/145 main, all other goodies that come with, can't remember pilot but runs good down low. Checked diaphragm, replaced intake boot as well it was starting to rot, and checked air box lid snorkel is free of blockage. Air box lid held up off air box just barely and rev machine it will pull down the air box lid to air box with force. cracked lid and rode seems to run ok but its like 8 degrees here right now and snow on ground... I guess the compression it is creating is causing this to need more air. You are right on air box lids and Polaris being critical had a 500 Sportsman not sealing before and it was doing kind of the same thing but wanting less air.
