Default Fuel sending unit

I have a 2006 Sportsman 800 that has been sitting up for awhile, Just started going threw it and replacing parts. I knew the fuel pump had gone out so I pulled the fuel tank and pulled the sending unit to find the whole unit corroded and rusted (Junk). I know you half to buy a new tank with unit but thats $$$$. Has anyone replaced with a different sending unit from another brand or model. I know Polaris had to use something for it to be a drop in peice.
