Default 86 kawasaki bayou 300

I have a 86 Kawasaki bayou 300. im trying to get this thing up and going again. needing to know if the butterfly in the carb is supposed to be closed while at idle or open slightly? I cleaned it all out today because it didn't want to run last night. started sputtering and killed itself last night. it had been revving itself up without me touching it, still don't know why that is.just don't know what to set the butterfly at. any help would be great.

Welcome to the forums.

I believe the original carb for this model has a slide instead of a butterfly. The slide should be down when it is at idle, it will look like it's just slightly open.

It has the slide on it with the needle that moves up and down from the vacuum, it ain't the same carb that came off it. I got this from my uncle who put a amazon carb on it.

This will explain it better than I can. The butterfly on the carb would be closed when the throttle is at idle.

Thanks for the video. Going to get everything going tonight I hope. Try to figure out the random revving up it's been doing if I can get it back to running. If you have any ideas besides vacuum leaks I'd like to hear them. Thanks again
