Z-400 that much better?
How much better is the Z-400 over the 400EX? I'm perfectly satisfied with the power of my Warrior, it just doesn't handle well enough for what I want to do with it. I'm mainly gonna do trail riding, and occasional MX track riding just for fun, not for competition (at least not yet). I'm not brand loyal in any way so ya'll feel free to say whatever you think about them. I should also mention that I will be buying a 400EX used, or a Z-400 new, and that will take some saving. So what's better about either one?

the Z motor has room for way more improvment, the chassis is about the same. the price new are close the z is 5500$ and the ex is 100$ less I think, but a used z will be about 4500$ and you can pick up an ex for around 3000$. I would say if your planing on building you quad to be fast (motor work) the get the Z, but if power isen't an issue go a used ex for the price.
best i can help ya. don't worry there will be more opions.

I'd rather not modify it at all if I can help it. That's why I want to get one that is fast enough to begin with. The way I see it, the more mods you put on it, the less reliable it is. If the companies had wanted them to come with all the extra performance parts, they would have put them on there. Is all this stuff I've been hearing about the Z having a weak frame actually true?

I agree with dsracer and you got to consider the z400 has reverse for trailriding now of course you can push quads this light if you get in a situation you need to go backwards but it's a lot easier to have a reverse gear to let the quad do the work for you. As far as stock form the z is a little ahead of the ex maybe 3 to 5mph faster top end. The honda has a little more lowend in first and second gear but a z can catch a honda in about 25 feet or so and then you'll steadily leave an ex behind. In a 200 yard drag I can beat my cousins ex by about 3 quads with a good start and the closest he's ever come to beating me is about a quad and a half. Now like dsracer said the z has way way more potential than an ex. If money is a really big factor maybe I would get the ex but you may regret it when a z flys past you. Seriously though, if looks are a factor for you the Z looks ten times better than an ex in my opinion. There both good quads and the ex has had more time to prove itself but the z is a step up from and ex in stock form and a leap above if you mod them. Good luck with your decision.
