What can you buy to mod your quad?

I'm wondering what you can buy to modify a quad. And what do they do to increase performance?

And finally, what would I be able to mod my trx250 with?

you would be better off asking,"what cant be bought to mod a quad"..it all depends on what you wanna spend for money?$100 or $25,000?if you buy better shocks, well it will ride better, jump better and you will be able to go faster because it will handle better..you can bore out your motor, run alky or nitros, add a better pipe, bigger carb, airfilter, and the list goes on and on..building your motor will give more hp resulting in a bigger smile on your face..you can also buy a titanium frame if ya want one but that will run ya 6-7 grand i think..so once again tell us how much you wanna spend, your type of riding and what your wanting to improve..

absolutely, there are WAY too many things to list. You would be better telling us your budget, where you ride and what you are trying to achieve (acceleration, top speed, handling, ect..)

Well I'm thinking about getting a 400ex. My friend has one and I want to beat him so if we mainly drive on huge straights, should I simply pick up a larger front sprocket to beat him on top end? Will he be that much ahead of me when we take off?

get the 400ex. If you mess with the gearing, he will leave you in the dust while you are trying to get to top speed. That is a good bike (is it a trx250x?)

Nope, it's just a trx250 utility bike. It's pretty much the same as today's 250 recon.

But will the 400ex really lose that much power if you go up one tooth on the front?

Start with a pipe for the 400ex. $450-650. Jet it and you will see a 2-5 hp increase in performance. Try a airfilter. $40-80. Maybe 1hp but more airflow. Those are basic mods that most people have. Sprockets anywhere from $25-85. They dont give hp but can give you more holeshot or more topend depending on which you get.

If you want to go more. Try a high compression piston and cams. $120-500 depending on which you get. Should see 5-15hp over stock. Port work, $75-500 depending on who you get. 3-5 hp.

Then if thats not enough hp then it depends on how much you are willing to spend. Anywhere From $1000-10000 in motor mods. Big Bore Kits, turbos, nos. Sky is the limit.

ya I wouldn't mess with the gearing either. I also, wouldn't get the full exhaust with your stock motor. Definantly buy a slip on pipe, air filter and make sure you jet properly. If you friend hasn't done that then you should beat him unless he weighs a lot less than you. After that, remove your air box lid (I would use an outerwear on my filter with this setup). Then like the others said, you can spend as much as you want on your motor, nitrous, turbo, ect.. Good luck and have fun

I dont want to mislead you, but if you plan on doing any motor mods later you dont want to buy a slip on. The full exhaust will benefit you better in the long run and will save you from having to buy two exhaust systems anyway. Unless you buy a slip on that bolts straight up to the pipe.
