maybe this is a dumb question but...
I'm looking into buying a sport quad, but i'm just curious about one thing. Why is it that some quads have 1st gear down, and the rest of the gears up from neutral?

thats just the motorcycle way of things, all motorcycles that i have ever seen use that method of shifting, and most ATVs with manual tranny's use that same style, dont kno why except its always been used

i dont like it, sometimes when i go to shift from 1sst into 2nd it accidentally goes into neutral, or goes from first to second without going into neutral

my boss modded his shifter so its 1 up the rest down
its mostly used for drag racing |

whats the point of making it one up, rest down? When you 1st ride, it is annoying and sometimes confusing, but after a while it just comes natural. as for nutural, i still cant find nuetural from 1st, so i just shut it down in 1st holding in the clutch..

its not too hard. it feels different and makes a different sound when going into neutral. i dont even have to look at the neutral light anymore
i do like my nephews yamaha 80 moto4, all the way down is neutral, up for all 4 gears. |
