Small sport quad
#1
Ok, I been thinking of buying another toy and a sport quad is pretty high on my list. I just want something to play on and I want to say at or below $3000. I also want a clutch and would like a 2 stroke. Is there anything out there execpt the blaster (pretty sure that is want I am going to get). Also what is a fair price for a new one? Is $2750 to low to try for? Any disadvanges to the Blaster? Thanks for the help!!!

As a general rule used Blasters seem to be pretty cheap. I'd say $1500-$2400 depending on model year. They haven't changed much since 1988, so you can find early models really cheap, but you may end up putting more into one of those than if you bought one a couple of years old. I think you could get a good used Blaster for $2000, or at least you can in my area. The only other 2-stroke that you can buy new for about 3 grand is the Polaris Trailblazer. Now do you really want a Polaris? Think long and hard about that one. Whatever you do stay away from the Kasea unless you are under 14. You WILL get pretty bored with it within about 15 minutes. Also there are few if any aftermarket parts for that model. (Probably won't ever be, either.) The Blaster is the best choice if you want something cheap that is reasonably fast. I own a '99 Blaster and I love mine. There are a ton of aftermarket parts for them and they are relatively easy to work on. With that said, I'll acknowledge the idea posted earlier of buying a used Banshee, 250R, LT250R, etc. These are all good machines and you can find good deals on them also. There does tend to be more demand for these models (as compared to a Blaster... or maybe there are just a lot of Blasters out there) so they will probably bring a higher price than a Blaster. These quads have a lot more power than a Blaster so you could pay a little more and go faster. I guess it's really up to you. Hope this helps.

Only disadvantage is the breaks, they stink, otherwise blasters are great fun and probally the best bang for your buck? If I were you I'd search around a little, you should be able to get a nice "new" used 2000 for around $2,000-2,500, mabe even less, I paid $1,500 cash for my blaster, he was asking $2,100, I emailed him and said "$1,500 cash tommorrow for your blaster, take it or leave it" and he took it

I agree, the brakes are pretty terrible. Trenga Racing makes a hydraulic rear disc brake system that is supposed to be the best thing going as far as upgrading the rear brakes. They also make grooved Kevlar shoes for the front that are supposed to be pretty good, but I haven't heard much about them. It is rumored that you can replace Blaster spindles with Banshee spindles and use the hydraulic disc system from a Banshee up front, but that could just be a myth or get really expensive depending on where you get your parts.

We have a Blaster and it hasn't turned out to be all that durable!! Cracked swingarm, shift drum worn out (twice!), axle bearing nuts won't stay tight even with locktite, and chain adjustment is ludicrous, but the top end is still ok. Anyway, there are maybe 15 kids who ride with us who have Blasters, and every one of them is a maintenance nightmare!! 4-strokes don't have as thrilling a powerband, but they hold up better.
