What happened to the 300ex?

They aren't on the Honda sport quad lineup currently, were they discontinued a long time ago or something? I find it strange that people would want the 250x over the 300ex power wise. I can't find any info on it online, so what's the deal? Where did the tried and true 300ex go?

That happens , they have a 250X and a 400X which is enough of a step up spread for them. Producing a ATV with just a 50cc increase probably is not economical to them any longer.

Some dont care like Polaris that makes a 455 Sportsman and a 500 Sportsman that you can not tell apart from each other. Its almost pointless.

In the other exstreme is Kawaski, they make a 300 and 360 4x4 (Almost pointless) but after that you have to jump to a 650 twin, thats one heck of a big leap and large gap. They do not even have a mid bore class 4x4 at all. After the 650 they make a little 100cc hop to a 700 once again.

Its strange thinking some times.

:yup:

the 300 was a bit of an odd-ball atv-
the 250 ex was popular with the ladies and a great beginners atv with the sport clutch- the 400 was the next logical step up and it looked way better than that 300ex.

What year was it phased out?

Looks like it may have been phased out before the 2012 lineup. I was able to get info. on the 2012 250ex but not the 300.

here ya go.

Honda discontinued the Honda 300EX in name only after the 2008 model year and now offers virtually the same ATV under the brand name TRX 300x instead. The new version of the 300ex is available in white, and traditional red if you're feeling nostalgic, and is powered by the same 282cc 4-stroke engine. Newer models don't have the distinctive headlight mounted in front of the handlebars and the plastics are sportier but with the same comfort at an MSRP of $5,299 for 2009.

Hmmm, wonder why it isn't listed on the current lineup then. Maybe 2009 or 10 was the last year. I watched some vids of the 250x and it does not seem all that bad, just tiny. I rode a Raptor 250 once and felt like a giant on it. But they would be perfect for small riders or beginners.

The EX to X was just a plastic change buy the looks of it. A little taller front suspension also.

Yeah, I hate the new plastics, to sharp and square and they all look the same.
