that depends if your gonna work and play get a sport utilty if you just wanna ride hard core in the wood's or a querry etc.. 2wd's are way more playful being's there lighter and you can slide the front end around 2wd's also have alot better handleing and there not nearly as nose heavy giveing it a better balnce point plus there much easier to wheelie iv put in year's with both 4wd utilty's and sport quad's if u wanna play get a sport other than mud and deeper snow there's nothing a 4wd can do that a 2wd can't because of there speed and lightness and the fact they have more power because it's only driveing one set of wheel's

I have rode both. If I was to get a 4X4 quad it would have to have push button engagement. The 4x4 tend to handle, steer different. I personally would have no use for a 4x4.

I'll stick with my 2x4. You can play more and it is more of a challenge(and fun) to climb with. By no means is my quad a sport but I can take it places my friend can't take his 300ex.(lack of ground clearance)

It is an individuals decision on what he can live with and live without.

Never buy a 4X4 utility machine unless your a farmer or a hunter. i would say a 4 stroke sport bike(300ex-400ex,etc.) is great for any beginner gettin into to atving, and if your an experienced rider, get a 250R. Keep in mind that sport quads are 20 times more stable when riding compared to those tipsy utility quads. Plus, when you get good, your gonna want something to push your limits with and that is gonna necasitate a sporty machine. GoodLuck!

I made the mistake of buying a cheap utility oriented machine first simply because I didnt know anyone with an atv nor had I ever ridden one. I paid $2800 for a new 1996 Suzuki LT160 in mid 97. Had it for 4 months. Then I bought an early '98 Yamaha Warrior. Geeze what a difference. I rode a couple of friends 4x4's a honda 300, foreman 400, Kawasaki Prairie 400, Yamaha Wolverine, Polaris 400 xplorer?, and a couple of others. Although the 4x4 quads were nice to have around to pull me out of muck (maxxis all track rear tires stopped that!) I never liked their handling. They were all top notch for smooth slow speed trail sightseeing. We do however like traveling a bit faster. Basically 4x4 quads just arent as much fun. Nice to have around as an extra machine when the going gets mucky or for hunting but for play.... I like going fast and jumping and wheelies alot more than mud. Not to mention duning. Even my lil blaster handles way bigger dunes than the prairie 400 can even think about climbing, it just cant get the momentum to carry it up the hill. I will say tho, I'd love to buy a grizz or Prairie650 for the wife...not that I wouldnt get some seat time too....

I prefer a 2x4 because I like to get where I am going in a hurry. If I did a lot of mud riding and work around the farm I would get a 4x4, but thats just not what I enjoy doing on an ATV. Some of the new big bore 4x4s are real cool and I could see buying one of those in the future as we do get quite a bit of snow here. However I will always have at least one sport quad (2x4) for the majority of my riding.

I prefer 2x4 for sport riding. Even when I have been in some serious wisconsin mud, 4wd mode is almost never truly necessary.

i like sport, and i like utility, i like speed, and i like wheelies, hill climbs, tight trails, acceleration, thats why i bought a scrabmler 400 4x4, its the best of both worlds, and i can trash a warrior , 300 ex, mojave, 250x, ect. all the 350 and under sport quads (stock) witht he exception of a banshee, in a drag race
