My first quad was a 400EX. It's a great machine, very user friendly. It'll have you feeling like a pro in no time. Many EX riders do out grow their bikes after a few months, though. Raptor's, Banshee's, & DS's all have more power, but are not nearly as easy to learn on.

Riding a 400EX is like hitting a hardball on the sweat spot of the bat, while riding a Warrior is like surfing with a waterlogged tellephone pole.

The best way to get a feel for prices on after market parts is to pick up one of the quad magazines (Dirtwheels, 4Wheel ATV Action, etc.) and check out some of the parts distibuters that advertise in them. Also you can take a look at Dennis Kirk (www.denniskirk.com), Chaparrel (www.chaparrel-racing.com), or other online parts stores.

If you're buying one new, definitely go with the Z-400. Why would you want to get something slower that doesn't have reverse when they are both the same price? Reverse is necessary on a quad to me unless you're riding in the dunes. I would have a 400EX right now if they have reverse, but because they don't, I'll be goin with Yamaha or Suzuki. Just an opinion.
