The 450 is only 1200 more than the z not 2200!!!Theyre both good uads made for diffrent things but the 450 is gonna blow it away for racing!

Ah sorry bout that guys, 1.2 grand, not 2.2. For trails, I dont think the YFZ is up to it, not having reverse and all. For racing, in big events, you can only do so much to the Yamaha, since its already basicly pushin bout as much power as it can, and the Zs are bumped up to 440cc, and get numerous mods, so teh Yamaha will only blow teh Z away if the top riders go to the Yamaha.

That's with any quad though the best riders will win on whatever they ride like Ricky Carmichael in supercross he could win on a suped up tricycle.

Oh and also don't you think the racers will pay for the more powerful stock quad that needs less mods therefore in the long run they'll spend a LOT less money. I do kind of agree with you about trail riding but I'd say a lot of yfz's will sell to regular trail riders and after it gets a great reputation in racing more and more regular guys will start buying it. Plus it looks cool.

I am not here to rip on the z400 because it is a nice machine. I bought a yfz 450 and it does great on the trail. You have to get use to the tall 1st gear but I loved the close ratio tranny up there.

Hey im going to agree with srk. if you dump 2g in racing suspension for a z. Thats going to be 0 preload full on racing shock. they are going to walk all over what the yfz got . yamaha cant mass produce a set of shocks for everybody and every riding condition and it been near as good as a set of elkas made for just one person. think about it. And i put a 2000 yz 400 motor in my old ex. the best thing about it was the weight lose .as far as power it wasnt that much faster than my modified 416 ex motor i took out. raptors with a full yoshi, filter and jets would give it a good run.and as far as getting more power out of the new yfz maybe a little but not much. you guys need read some dirtbike books there way ahead of the atvs. kudos to yamaha the yz motor is and excellent motor ,because they build it to the max from the factory.dirtbike mag will tell you any more hp mods to the the yz will difintely shorten the motors life like a hand grenade . let the dust settle on the yzf for a little the magazines kiss every manufacturs butt until the new wears off. just like theyre paid to.

Thats true- its hard to get much more power from a YZF motor. I had a YZ250F that i dumped about 4 grand into (not all motor though) and on the dyno it didnt make more than 2 more horses than stock. I'd be willing to bet that you wont be able to get more than 5HP gain from the YFZ motor without serious internal motor work. Even bumping up the compression ratio will pretty much only get you more low end power. You could cam it (it has a WR cam in it), bore the carb, free up the intake, and put a very open exhaust pipe on it to gain a couple peak horsepower but you'll lose it on the bottom. The Z motor on the other hand does have quite a bit of room for hopping up similiar to the EX but since its water cooled you have more potential. The difference in cost is about $2,000+ (LTZ quads are going for around 5,300 around here versus 7,600 for the YFZ) you could put some better shocks up front and get a yosh 450 kit for the motor and have a sweet quad and if your like me have way more fun building it than going to a store and paying more for an already built quad.

Shewww....you people overlook one thing. When it comes to racing, nobodys gonna race on a stock quad. there is no quad thats race ready. Anybody that races the yfz still puts wider a'arms, axle, shocks and sorry but no factory 439cc motor is gonna run with an aftermarket bored 440 motor. it aint gonna happen. the yfz has like 36 hp or somethin like that right? im not for sure but your gettin 50 hp from trinity and ct and other companies for the Z. ok...here i go with the price stuff now. ok....around here you can get a kfx400 for 5200 and the yfz is $7000....$1800 difference. Now when you set both of these quads up to race your gonna have wider A-arms($500-750), wider axle($400-$600), shocks($1000-bout$1750)...this is the major things for handling. well that runs about $3000 at the most and around 2000 with cheaper mods, thats handling...and that will be done to both quads. No Pro is gonna race a factory quad and it sure aint gonna handle worth crap if they do. Lets just go all out and say that the kfx rider and yfz rider both got all the best stuff and put $3000 into their machines. KFX price will be $8200...YFZ $10,000. Now the yfz doesnt have much room more motor mods, except exhaust, maybe cams and some minor things, but nothing thats gonna pop that motor up no more than 10 or 12 hp at the most. Not for pro racing. well with any 440 kit for the kfx your gonna get around 50hp. lets say trinity. trinity with exhaust is what?...$1899. well that will about equal the price difference and you have a slightly more powerful kfx than the yfz and for the same money with equal handling. Im not brand loyal by the way...i mean i got a kfx and its really a suzuki but im always dressed in green...lol. By the way for a pro racer there will be a lot more mods than i listed but thats just to explain my point. steering stems, tie rods, swingarms, tired, wheels and much much more will also be thrown in. The point is when you put together a full race quad. Theyre all almost equal. The best rider can win on any machine.
