They are a whiter light and more broad of a beam. I dont think they have the distance of the stock one.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and to quads in general. I've rode them, but haven't actually owned one yet. I'm getting an 86 LT250R from my boss, it has a lot of stuff with it, but no engine. I was wondering what engines stock for these things typically run (new and used). Also, what engines will mount directly to the quad without modifications? I know how to weld, so with that in mind could I weld in new brackets to fit any engine on it? or will only specific ones work?

The 85-86 250 engines have alot less potential than the 87+, however they are very dependable and make pretty good power. I think it is an excellent first quad, but I am pretty biased.

The LT500 engine is commonly swapped into the 85-86 frame. It's a relatively easy swap and is extremely fast. Maybe not a good idea for a beginner, though.
