LT250R rear brakes, search didn't do me justice

Here's my problem. My rear brake pedal will push down but not return. If I pull it back up and press it again, the piston continues to come out but will not return. I DID NOT remove the brake lines or anything. The only thing I did was remove the assembly to replace the swingarm bearings, etc. Do they just need to be bled or is there another issue here? I have NO experience with rebuilds or anything on ATV brakes.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Did you put the return spring back on the pedal?

That would be great if it's the problem but I never took it off. I'll have to check today to make sure it's still there...

Do the brakes work, but the pedal just won't return?
I have never seen the pedal go down and get stuck, especially if the return spring is on.

Well I went home and found that the spring was not on. Also, the screws were too tight which limited movement, but....

I have no pedal pressure now. I forced the piston back in with a C-clamp. Do I need to bleed it now?

Probably

Sometimes gunk gets built up in calipers... when you push the pison back in, the gunk messes up the caliper seals. Not all of the time but sometimes. If in doubt... try bleeding the system and replacing the fluid in the process. The fluid should be clear and not milky in color.

It sounds to me that when you reinstalled the clamps that hold the brake hose on you put it on too tight which would have pinched the hose. This would allow fluid out of the resivoir and into the caliper but wouldnt allow it to return back to the resivoir. Check all clamps real close and make sure you dont have a pinch or possibly a crimp in the line.

Thanks guys, I bled the brakes two nights ago and boy did they need it! The fluid was probably the original fluid from years ago. It was nasty.
