Would a LT500 be good for pit and trail riding? What would be the best year to get?
Any major problems to look out for? Thanks

I couldn't tell u about riding the zilla in the woods since I live and ride in the desert. Stay away from the 1987 model, this was the first year of the Zilla and it had he most problems. I'm not sure on the 1988 model but I can tell u that the 1989 and the 1990 models are the best to get. When you go to look for a Zilla, ask the owner if the crank bearing bosses have been resleeved with bronze insert's. If it has than that is a plus. All years of the Zilla require this repair, the orginal bosses get wollerd out thus lean out the motor and causing engine faluire.
The only problem that I have had is a blown base gasket at the rear of the motor underneath the reed housing. That section of the gasket is very narrow. I cured this problem by buying a thicker metal linned gasket. I was also told to use a liquid gasket adhesieve, from locktite it comes in a small blue arisal can.
The Quadzilla's are very picky when it comes to jetting. it has to be right on. I bought my quadzilla and it was bored .80 over and needed a bore job. when I pulled off the top end to do this, I checked the main jet to see what it was jetted at and it had the original #350 main still in it, this bike was bored .80 over, DG pipe and silencer, and had the air box lid removed and it still had stock jetting! I asked the previous owner if he had ever messed with the jetting on the bike and he said "no" he didnt know anything abot jetting or that it need to be changed after modification. Well now it is bored .100 over (wiseco P-10) and I have the jetting corrected and I find it very reliable. Mine has also had the crank bearing bosses resleeved when it was owned before me,Im gald, its about a $425.00 job. Hope I answered a few questions for u....Herbert
