i have an 1985 suzuki lt250r and it wont start, the compression is ok, tested 4 times, read 146, 146, 147, 145, has a nice blue spark, has gas, itll kick really easy sometimes, then itll kick back and back fire, i had it running for like 10 mins, then it died, i pulled the flywheel cover off...the woodruff key was sheared i replaced it, hasnt started since. any help would be appreciated.

 

I have a 1986 and it is doing the same thing, i have tried everything I know, and i am just plain out of ideas, im to the point now that I am about to take it to a shop (last thing I want to do), but really it is hard to find someone that can work on them, hope someone can help us out

 

It sounds like it could be some type of timing problem because of the flywheel issue and back firing. I'm not sure how that can happen with a 2 stroke so I might be completely wrong. Someone else who'se more knowledgeable should chime in soon.

 

My first guess would be carb settngs. Do you know if you have the carb set correctly? If you don't try and find a friend or someone whos good with carbs, and have them check it out for you.

 

Change spark plug. Check your reeds fo cracks. You should have around 165lbs. compression. Pull the top end you may have cold seizure, Last you may have blown a crank seal.

 

i have an 87' LT that did the same thing. Try drift starting it, that's what i did and it fired up.
