for that price, it sounds like a deal.
as for quality, i have friends athat have had thier LT250r's fro a few years now and they have reallly whooped on them and they keep coming back for more.. i kid you not. for that reason, i bought one myself. one of them these two i talk about has ridden it for 200+ hours and has only had to change sp. plug, reeds, and rings. the other had his bored for the first time last year he ran it 'till it died.
generally speaking, they can keep up with all the hondas and some banshees. you don't have to kick start it backwards like the honda either. as for reliability, when ported, polished and highly modified, reliability decreases.. due to the fact that you are working the unmodified parts more. this happens on all engines 2 or 4 stroke. however while it is running, it does give it lots more ooomph!
my '91 is polished inside ports, but not ported..... and its plenty fast for me.
overall i'd say the 500 did not get as finised of a look from the factory, but that can be changed.... they make really cool dunes machines.

ahhh! the taste of unburnt hydrocarbons in the morning, gotta love it!

'91lt250r, '94 xr250l, '84 Jeep CJ-7, all mildly modified
