Default Baseline jetting for 35pwk on an 86 LT

I just got a 35pwk(non airstriker). I'm running a k&n with an open airbox, Aaen pipe and stock porting and reeds at sea level. What main, pilot and needle should I start with?

How to jet a 2 stroke

I have an 88LT w/airstryker 35 and use a 158 main with a 42 pilot with the needle that came with the carb and the clip is on the second from top landing.

Capn,
Thanks. That is an excellent article that I had seen on forwardmotion.com.

One queston - Isn't the 35 a bit small for your LT? Your PV engine flows more air than mine stock and yours is ported. Not trying to be an a$$, just curious.

sam- generally the smaller the carb more bottom end you have but less top end. Mabey he just wants more bottom end then top and rides where it requires bottom over top... ANYWAY, If it was my bike I would start at 162.

Dragracer - That makes sense because I know the Capn is geared way down so top end is not his thing, must be able to climb up a wall tho.

Bob - Did you run the pwk before you ported the jug? How did it run? What pilot and needle are you running? Is your's an Airstriker?

Sorry about all the questions. The carb is used but looks brand new. I think the guy I bought it from was trying to use it on a trx but was unable to get it dialed. Since he was fiddling with it, I want to verify the needle and pilot before I try it out. Thanks for the help!

My favorite thing in the whole world (at least in the woods) is hill climbing.

yeah I'm setup for tight woods and hill climbing and love it but theres not much on top end. My porting and pipe is tuned for low-mid power also.
I'm going to post som pics of my stompin grounds soon.

To update this thread....

I had been running my stock Mikuni because of all the trouble with the PWK.

1) I started running 40:1 synthetic instead of 32:1 castor, so I had to adjust the jetting on my stocker 'cause I want to be able to use that if I have to.

2) The PWK will NOT work on an 85-86 without the Boyesen super float bowl.

3) My jetting is nowhere near where I thought it would be based on others who have replied here.

Right now I am running a 158 main with a 58 pilot and the clip 1 down from the middle, air screw 3/4" turns out. It is pinging when I run it wide open and also when I roll off the throttle after hard acceleration. I'm gonna try bumping up the main, but I think the problem might be that the gas tank petcock is on the right side and the carb gas inlet is on the left and it might not able to flow enough with the fuel line crossing over the carb.

I got the carb after I had my head ported. No it isn't an air stryker. they have the extra 2 vent hoses. I am running the stock needle, and a 155 main. Its the strongest setup that I have had on this quad, although a 36mm may be a little better. I tried a 38mm mikuni from a quadzilla, but it didn't do as well as i hoped.

After buying about ten jets I will probably never use, I think I finally got the carb dialed in. I'm running a CEJ needle on the second groove from the top with a 52 pilot, 165 main and 1-1/4 turns out on the airscrew. Interesting how different my setup is from others wno posted here.
