its mudding not mudden
For mudding, I would definately say the Sportsman all the way. The Vinson doesn't have a front differential lock nor does it have the ground clearance of the independently suspended Sportsman. BUT, don't get me wrong though, the Vinson is IMO the most versatile 500cc utility quad out there. Once your in the woods you'll be able to throw around the Vinson much easier. Plus for $350 you can get a differential lock for the Vinson and that problem would be solved.
In short, with IRS, lots more ground clearance, true 4WD, awesome stock tires and a much larger stance and appearance, the Sportsman is more of a monster out of the box. The Sportsman is full on utility, while the Vinson leans towards sport/utility. The Vinson's lighter weight, sporty steering, SRA (less body roll) and seat/rider position makes it more sporty. You also have the option of getting the Vinson in a 5-speed model (even less $$ and more sportiness). What are you looking for? What do you like better, independent rear suspension (IRS) or solid rear axle (SRA)? Have you gotten some OTD prices while shopping around?
Good luck.

I agree. The Vinson is a better "All Around" machine IMO. Both machines are good it just depends what type of rider you are. The best thing to do is ride them both and then decide.
Here's the reasons I didn't get the sportsman:
- seat was wider than I liked, forcing my legs apart too much
- hated the gear shifter
- Very HEAVY
On the other hand with IRS it gives you a much more cushy ride than the Vinny.

Love the Mud Lites. Good for mud and even better in snow! They work well on packed dirt too but I can't slide the back end around like I use to because they grip so well. Even with all that the best part about them is that I no longer get flats. I plugged my stock tires so much they looked like a porcupine. I didn't notice any power loss but I really haven't had a chance to really see because since I got them there's been 2 feet of snow on the ground.
