Hello,

Recently I was going to take out my Z250 but it wouldn't start. The temp was cold but i had the gas on prime and full choke, it would start, then die after about five seconds. This is a 2004 z250, all stock, i recently changed the oil and cleaned the filter, sometime around august, and probably not ten hours on it since. any help would be appreciated. thanks

 

turn your gas on or add gas! my friends rappy did that, started then died, then it wouldent start at all. he eneded up not having any gas, or, drain your float bowl, see if theirs any gas in it, or check your spark pluG

 

That happend to me too. I tried turning up the idle just a little bit and now it will start up instantly.

 

There are a couple things I have noticed about the Z250s and their starting problems. If it wont start at all fill the tank completely. Mine did that once, started then died and refused to start again. It was just because it was out of gas (well I could see gas in there but I geuss it was just low enough) Turned it to reserve and she fired right up. Try choke half way also and if she wont stay idleing after that then turn up your idle so that she idles soundly and does not try to stall on you. Anything below 20 degrees and she will give you some trouble starting. If this still doesnt work then you may have a cogged jet in the carb or your choke cable could be out of adjustment. And remember that if you change the idle screw set it back to normal once she is fully warmed up.

GTFZ250- so right after the quad is warmed up i can put the idle screw back to its normal position, when i do this do i shut the quad off? Also, dumb question, but where is the idle screw, thanks.

 

It located on or by the carb on the left side I think. Its a little black ***.

 

It helps to have the quad running while setting the idle.

 

the idle screw is a little black screw on the left side near the carb. no you dont have to turn the quad off to adjust the idle. by the way dont leave it on primer while your riding.

 

Why not?

 

BrocksZ- I don't kno the reason why you shouldn't leave it on prime while your riding, but i know whenever you arent riding the quad and its off, keep it either in the on position or res.
