That really sucks, I think you should sell the 250 motor and get a 500 and pop that baby in there. I would run it for as long as you can and then when it blows i would get a 88+ cylinder to put on it.

i talked to a local engine builder about the 87 vs. 88+ piston. It seems that the wrist pin is in the same location and the only differences are the skirt cut-away and the dome. So with that said you either have to run a 88+ head or a cool head. He also said the skirt design won't really matter. Hope this helps.

Also i'm fairly sure the 87 LT engine runs the same cylinder as the 86 RM (besides port detuning) so an 86 RM piston should work but i have not confirmed this yet.

For what its worth i am NOT planning on giving up my 87 anytime soon. there's always solutions!

i wouldnt switch cylinders if your happy with the motor. sudco makes pistons for lt's FTZ racing makes modified yz pistons that are re-pinned to work in lt's for 110 bucks/(k-dog) uses them. I know certain year rm 250 pistons work in lt's. why not run stock pistons from suzuki-they are cast and not forged, and they are more tolerant of heat so they dont swell and contract so much. and i am pretty sure they are longer lasting. i have a .050 over piston for the 87 brand new if you want it for free. and you could always buy a few wiseco kits now, AND DONT FORGET,WISECO CAN MAKE CUSTOM PISTONS,SO IM SURE YOUD BE ABLE TO SPECIAL ORDER ONE TO 87 LT SPECS

My friend's 91 LT is running an 86 RM jug. It is very similar to the 87 LT jug with the large reed area but with different port timing. It doesn't have a ton of low end but rips on top.

you can make the 88 up piston work, just drill the bridge oiling holes, and cut the port U in the back bottom.
