I'm not sure as to what the actual elevation is for Lake Tahoe, but you may or may not have to have it actually rejetted. I don't know of any specific altitude adjustment on the z400 other than having the bike rejetted. But if you rejet it for Tahoe, you'll have to have it rejetted when you come back to the coast. If my thinking is right, you have to have the bike jetted leaner to match the leaner air of higher altitudes. If you don't have it rejetted you'll be running rich, which while it may affect performance, it won't cause any damage to the engine. Running too lean however will cause some serious wreckage inside your motor. Find out the altitude of Tahoe, or better yet, call one of the dealers in the Tahoe area, tell them your situation and see what they'd charge to rejet when you get there and when you leave, or even if you'll have to rejet at all. The Tahoe boys would probably help you more than Cali dealers since the Tahoe guys see first hand what works good and what doesn't.

you can run it the way it is but is will be running rich. it wont hurt anything but it might foul the spark plug
and as for what MeYHymN said he's correct find out the elevation and talk to your dealer about it

I've ridden my Z at 8500+' with the same jetting and didn't have any problems. Bring a couple different size jets with you and see what happens. It may run fine the way it is, if not jet it there.

I use TPI valves (http://www.thunderproducts.com/tpi_valve.htm) in the airbox lids on some of my bikes. You open them to increase air intake as you ascend the mountain, and close them to decrease it as you descend. The system works superbly for me! However, if you airbox lid isn't intact, you are out of luck.
