When did Suzuki start making the best ATV's made?

I just got the latest copy of ATV rider. It tests the 400 series bikes and the Eiger wins 1st place even though it is $600 cheaper than the others. I haven't ridden the Eiger but it must be great. I have however ridden the new King Quad and I can't get enough of it. Neither can anyone else that rides mine, they don't want to give it up. Suzuki is making great ATV's right now. When did they make this conscious decision that they would excel in the ATV market. Can't wait to see the reviews on the upcoming Z450.

I'd say about 02 wasn't it? I think thats when they started making cool quads. The ones they had before that were ugly and slow...............

Suzuki made the best quads since 85 with the introduction of the LT250R quadracer and LT230S quadsport which shook the ATC world upside down. 86 would have to go to Honda for releasing the 250R (even though I prefer the LT's), but in 87, the crown went back to Suzuki for unleashing the most powerful ATV ever- the LT500R quadracer, which reigned from 87-90. To say that Suzuki just started making fast quads in 02 is incorrect. Their UTILITY quads have gotten much better and faster since 02, but for pure performance, the Zilla will probably never be toped. Also, after 90, the LT250R was the best bike built in 91 and 92 in my opinion. From 93 until the Z400, suzuki unfortunately followed the suit of most other manufactures (except Yamaha who surprisingly kept the Banshee) by exiting the performance quad world.

It is great though that Suzuki is getting credit for all the great quads their making now. Back in the 80's, magazines would rarely admit they had great quads since they were never much of a comptetitor in the 3 wheeling world and the favorites had already been decided.

Long live the LT's

I had to respond due to the mention of the magazine. I do agree that Suzuki got back in-w/ both feet-after the dark ages!

Suzuki is on top of the ATV world right now, in my opinion. If their new 450 racer turns out to be a success (I'm sure it will), that'll be just that much more power to 'em. It makes me so mad whenever I tell uneducated people how well Suzuki is doing these days and they still believe that yellow machines are junk. Times have changed. Suzuki has, without a doubt, the most solid lineup of sport-utility ATVs on the market. The only thing missing from their sport lineup is a big-bore.

I will say the 80s to early 90s they made the best sport quads with the only big bore 2 stroke and the 250 and 230 but my award for the most nuts still goes to yamaha for not bending over and taking it in the exit route by the lawyers who sued everybody. I love my lt500 but I still give a round of aplause to yamaha for not consitering their powerhouse the banshee until they made laws that wouldnt let them make it anymore.
