You won't notice a single difference without removing the airbox snorkel, adding a freer-flowing air filter and replacing the stock spark arrestor with a PowerTip from eBay. With this said, the new mapping may not be spot-on with the PowerCommander, so many prefer the also cheaper Dobeck TFI.

Can the spark arrestor be left off?

Hey RedGoblin - I have a Big Gun exhaust for my King, so I'm good to go there. I also have a TwinAir filter. What good does removing the snorkel do? Is it's purpose to keep water out?

Yes it is and I'm no mechanic, but from what everyone says and my own looking around in the airbox, it doesn't appear to be able to keep water from going or not going anywhere. The airbox is placed high up for a reason and if you're going to ride in water higher than that, you need snorkels anyway. I myself am not going to do the Dobeck/Airbox/Exhaust mod until after I've gotten a timing module or CDI, but the people who HAVE done it say they can hear a sucking sound coming from their airbox after they've removed this snorkel, so you know it's got to be pretty restrictive.

Yes, it can, but it's not a good idea in my and many other's opinions. They put spark arrestors in mufflers for a reason and if you ride in dry vegetation-conditions, there is a serious risk of starting a fire. Also, don't even think about being allowed to ride at any public trail system, track, park, etc. without a spark arrestor. The only people who can get by without one are those who ride private land only, which would apply to me, but if ever I want to ride publicly, I'll be glad to know I have a spark arrestor.
