HOW DO YOU KEEP A NEW WATER PUMP SEAL FROM LEAKING ON THE LT250r's????????
 

every time I put a new water pump seal in it never fails it starts leaking out the bottom seep hole of the side case. Is there a special way to put the mechanicle seal in without messing it up? someone help please, going crazy!!

you have to install it corectly for it to not leak! lol

how are you installing it? do you know you have to put a little gasket sealer around it when you install it in the case. hows thw impeller? if is bent or warped it will leak. also if the shaft is bent it will leak to. oh and if you don't put in new rubber washers on the bolt it will leak too.

I used all new but used old bolt and washers. could that be my leak?......and do you put the machanicle in before the shaft or after?

okay this is how i do it. and i've done enough of them and i've had all the problems. get all new parts. its the best way to do it.
1. first put in the oil seal,
2.install the shaft
3. install the mechanical seal with a little bit of gasket sealer around it where it sits in the case. (use a good quality sealer, like a honda bond)
4. put the ceramic seal in the impeller.
5. install the impeller
6. put the steel washer, then the rubber washer with the groves facing towards the impeller, on the bolt. also put a little blue loctite on the bolt for security.
7. torque it to specs
then it should be good to go.

and yes it could be the washers. i've tried making my own and it would still leak. also would put gasket sealer all over it and still would leak. so at least get a new rubber washer.

hey sblt500r what do you put the machanicle in with? I used a socket about the size of the outside of the seal and hit it in. Is this right?

Put a little Bars Stop Leak in the radiator. It cured mine when I had this problem.

yup, use a socket the same size as the outside of the mechanical seal. and make sure its seated evenly.
