I love 2 strokes, but this is a bear to start. I've tried all different combinations of jets and needle settings with no luck. I kick on it and kick on it and all I get is a backfire or a little smoke, so it's firing. Carb is rebuilt, boysen reeds, new uni filter, rebuilt top end, fmf silencer with stock expansion chamber. I assume I'm still jetted rich since it ran great this winter at 190 main, 35 pilot, needle jet at 2nd postion from top, checked floats and tried different settings.
How much leaner do I dare jet this thing? Can anyone in Minnesota or a comparable temp place in the world tell me what they are running with there jetting?
I know this is a problem with 2 stokes but this is crazy. I had a 84 ATC 250r and it ran year round without adjusting the carb at all.
Thanks for you input and time

Before you give up, and buy a new carb, check the compression.
Also, you can try pull starting it. Just have someone on another quad or lawn tractor, hook up a strap, and pull the quad at about 7 mph. Have your key on, and in 4th gear...and if its posible to start ,it will.

Hey thanks for the encouragement I'll keep trying. I would like to keep it as stock as possible. It does have plenty of compression as I have rebuilt the top end last summer.
Thanks alot for replying
