i need to pick some people's brains

a friend of mine has asked me to try to get his bike running. this is all i know about the bike:

it's a 90 suzuki 2 stroke 4 wheeler. the original owner had taken the engine out and when it was re-installed it wouldn't go. apparently it will start with the choke on but stalls out when turned off. so right off the bat it seems to be starving for fuel. i'm quite mechanically inclined when it comes to cars/trucks, but not so much for bikes. i know that the wires that run down to the side of the bike and disapear in behind a cover by your left foot may not have been hooked up properly. also as i was checking this bike over i noticed that on the air box there are 2 "ports", and they are both capped off. now to me it would appear as if the engine is unable to breathe. am i on the right track here?
if anyone anywhere's has any kind of wiring diagrams or anything that could help me out that would be excellent. (i may be buying this bike if it stays running)

thanks for now.

When it was taken out was there any mods done to the engine? If it runs with choke on then i doubt it has anything to do with electrical. I would say clean air filter and the carb. Then look at the jets while you have the carb off. I would go with a bigger jet, and see what happens. If there was a pipe added or a bigger piston installed, you'll need to rejet it.

thanks for the tip. it is possible that it was modified, however i'm not sure right now. also, is the breather box supposed to have 2 capped off ports? that i did notice while i was looking at it, i thought that perhaps that the engine wasn't able to breath. it would be nice to have a shematic to double check everything. keep the replies comin'! thanks.

Are those "ports" clear tubing that attach to the bottom of the airbox? If so, they are just for drainage. Any water/mud/fuel that may find its way into the airbox has an exit that way. If you pinch the cap, you will probably see that it actually has a slice in the end of it. The first thing is I would check the air filter, make sure it is cleaned and freshly oiled. If that is allright, check the gas lines and fuel petcock to make sure fuel flows freely to the carb. After that checks out, check the floats, as they may be stuck only partially open. Off the top of my head, make sure the breather hose on the gas cap is not kinked or obstructed.

ok i'm back!! does it run with the choke on or just start and die?? i'd say to screw your air screw all the way in, back it out 2 - 2 1/2 turns and see what that does!! i'd start there!! do you know how to check the jetting?? you'll fall in love with the bike if you get it running!! oh and those holes being plugged is right, but i did away with my air box all together!!
