When i told my buddies I was going to get an auto they said I would have problems with mud and water getting into the tranny and messing it up and eventually cause me alot of problems and cost me alot of money. Are they just trying to get me to get a manual like they have or are they just blowing smoke up my butt. Plus they said manuals last longer and are more reliable.

Tell your friends to lay of the cheap drugs and invest in the better stuff! I do a lot of dice runs in my 2002 Vinson and have never been stuck. Get some good tires and rip it up.

polaris are famous for wetting the belt but easy to fix as well 15.00 at hardware store and some old vaccum cleaner hose fixes it rite up

I have been in a good bit of water and mud. Yes, I have been stuck. But I have never had a problem with the belt drive. After a day of nasty stuff, just check the drain plug on the drive cover to make sure no water is in it.

the only thing different about auto and manual is that auto is a little slower of the line cvt tranmission id say is the best cause it faster then like v-belt.

I agree with your buddies to some degree. I have seen a auto tranny get mud on the belt when going through deep mud and the belt slips and you have to drain out the mud. This is not a problem with the manuals.

I drive an old Polaris that gets in mud and water up to the seat nearly every day and I've never had any belt issues other than a replacement from age. Replaced the stock one that came on it a while back. Never had one get wet. It gets ridden back and forth between different parts of the farm which are separated by a creek. The crossing is usually pretty deep and muddy. Sometime after a rain it's impassable.

Oh and when it gets dammed up behind fallen logs and gets stagnant and when its hot like it has been lately...the smell is just...unique.
