Default 2000 QuadRunner 160 wont stay running

hey guys, need some help fixing up my buddys quadrunner. it has been sitting for 2 years and he wants to get it running again. ran fine last time he used it. battery went dead and he hasnt touched it in two years.... here is what i have done so far...
-changed oil
-new sparkplug
-new battery.
-the airbox had about a half quart of oil in it lol. drained it. and cleaned filter. have not replaced filter yet.
-filled gas tank (there was about an inch of old gas in there)
-checked for spark...excellent spark from the new plug

put the new battery in and it rolls right over. just wouldnt start. cranks really easy. grabbed the can of ether and hit the air box once. picked right up and ran for a few seconds then died. back to just cranking. well if u keep spraying ether in the airbox it will keep running. if u hit the throttle it revs up. it will sit and idle while on the ether too. as soon as the ether burns up u either have to pray more, or it will die.....
----so it has spark and air... must be the fuel right?

....pulled the carb off the motor and air air intake...
clean on the inside from looking. i didnt tear it apart. when you plush the throttle in, the inside moves open and fuel start dripping out....so its getting fuel. took plug out to check it and its not wet with fuel. kinda black tho for only being used an hour,so it isnt flooding.

so it has spark, getting air, and getting fuel.....what else does a motor need to run?????????

it runs really good on the ether...but as soon as it burns up the ehter it quits. it will idle on the ether as well as rev up, rev up and hold at high rpm, rev up and down. rev up and back down to idle. it runs just fine....but only on ehter.... any help is appreciated! in the mean time im going to figure out how to make an ether injection system to replace the fuel system lol. thanks guys!

You need to take the carb apart and clean it. The jets and passages must be clogged also check the needle and seat to make sure it isn't stuck shut.

yep CLEAN the carb, never go by looks.

also, you might want to check for sufficient compression to run (atleast 125psi) hopefully it doesnt turn over TOO easy.

Default Thanks guys!

The carb cleaning did the trick! Took it off, disassembled cleaned it thoroughly with solvent and blew it out with compressed air.

Thanks again for your help!
