Quadsport 230 vs 250 engine specs

Long story short i am in the market to buy a new 4 wheeler after my blaster 240 was stolen. I have always liked the old quadsport 230s and do not have the money for a Z400.
So i have been shopping for a 230 and ran across one on craigslist advertised as running good with good plastics for $700. I went to look at it and when i saw it the stator cover (left engine case) was off from the notorious " i put the chain into the motor" and the plastics were cracked up and zip tied back together. Not exactly as advertised but i proceeded to check it out and ask the guy what was up.
Turns out that he says he had just put a 250 cylinder and head on it. I couldn't find detailed specs of the two engines online anywhere but i believe that the 250 not only has a larger bore but i longer rod as well. So from what i am thinking this frankenstein motor would have very low compression and not worth even the $500 that i think he already said he would take for it.
The bearings, tires, steering, nerf bars, chain, rear skid plates, and probably some extra parts (250 bottom end and such) all made it a temping deal still but i wanted to ask about this engine first and see what you guys think. Any help would be great.

Did he swap in the 250 cam as well? I could be wrong, but I think the 230 and 250 engines are identicel besides the bore size?

no they are not interchangeable.

you are wise to suspect that you are buying someone else's problem here...might be best to save your $$$ and get a Z

It's funny that the cam and stuff swap directly over, but nothing else will.

so the top end is not interchangeable? so when he says he has done a swap of the cylinder, head and piston and he has started it and ridden it what does that mean? If he did put a new cylinder and head on they were off of another 230 and not a 250? what is the cc's of a 250, i know the 230 is 229cc. How would i be able to tell what?

He has already come down to $500 because of my hesitation, i am debating low balling him at $300 depending on if he has extra parts to throw in.

I'm fairly confident 250s parts will work. Non S model 250's were 2 stroke and wouldnt work. The 250 either had a slightly larger bore with the same stroke, or the same bore with a larger stroke. Either way its not much or a difference, we're only talking about 20cc's.

the cylinder, head, cam, and valve cover all interchange.

the cam is a different (better imo) profile on the 250

the piston wrist pin is 1mm bigger on the 250

the 250 head has better flowing ports and one valve (cant remember which) is 1mm bigger than the 230's

if that thing is running the 250s cylinder, head, and cam, with a high compression wiseco piston and an adequate sized carb with a good flowing exhaust, thats probably a pretty mean motor for a 230. id test it out.
