I have a 2005 Polaris Scrambler 500. Its seems to be that the centrifugal clutch is slipping once the bike warms up. I can smell burnt rubber from the belt (i think it's the belt). Does anyone know whats going on? Is it an adjustment or is my clutch no good or is the belt no good? One the bike first starts it doesnt slip and had power rite away. But when it worms up i have to almost give it half throttle just to move the quad.

 

If you smell burnt rubber then it sounds like you need a new belt. Easy to replace, just roll or cut the old one off and roll a new one on. You should move this to the Polaris forums to get more answers.

 

i already put another one on the polaris forum i think....and i'm pretty sure the belt is new. The ribs all seem fine.

 

Run it with the cover off to see if both the front and rear clutches are working. The belt should run up to the top of one and to the bottom of the other. If the clutches move fully and the belt slips you have the wrong size.

 

I took the cover off. When it first starts up the clutches both move great. But once it worms up the back clutch seems to jam a little. (you know how they both open and close when the throttle is givin) when it worms up the font one opens and closes fine but the rear one doesnt open it just jams closed. I can't even open it by hand. But when the bike cools down i can open it by hand again. It's weird.
