Late 80's QuadRunner help. Weird Noises..
 

I just picked up a late 80's QuadRunner. When I rode it at the guys house it rode like crap, I would have hesitation, and power then no power. He told me he thought the carb boot was cracked and sucking air which made sense, but I figured the whole carb needed rebuilt anyway, so I took it.

When I got home last night from my 2 hour drive home with it, I started it up and rode around the yard off and on for around 20 min or so.. just to get a better understanding of what it was doing. When I went to put it in the garage, I put it in reverse, it backed up, and then when I went to put it back in neutral, as soon as I did, it made this whining noise, and then shut off. I started it back up and it started and then I touched the throttle and it made the whining noise and shut off again. I ripped the carb off last night and sprayed it out with carb cleaner. But this whining noise I have no idea, Idk if the guy didnt have oil in it or what. But any insight would be helpful.
