Lightbulb Question about fuel - injecting my 2003 Z 400

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has, or knows how to fuel inject a 2003 z 400 quadsport.

Could you just buy the manifold and computer / harness off a 2009 z 400?

is there any aftermarket kits available?

Could a megasquirt be used?

Thanks!

I think there is a little more to it than that.Looking at my 09 ther are alot of differences. Airbox and sensor in the air box. Gas tank and fuel pump in the tank. dash has the fi lights in it . I am sure theres more but I would have to look closer. just my 3 cents

Sure you could.

All you need is three things

#1. A whole LOT of money.
#2. A whole LOT of time.
#3. A whole LOT of knowledge.

I put fuel injection on my 86 LT 250r. It came on the 2004 GSXR 750 engine I installed in it.

Lots of money to go to EFI from carb just to have a easier cold start. There is no performance improvement ,the 2010 450 KTM motorcross won a shootout and it was the only carbed motorcross in the shootout. In 2009 the Suzuki 450RM came in last and it was the only EFI motorcross in the shoot out.

Not worth the money and hassle I would think just to not deal with a choke on a cold start.

If performance is your concern it would be simpler and cheaper to get a mikuni TMX Carb ,

TMX mikuni Carb has many advantages. Airflow is up 20% compared to the stock carb and throttle response is instant instead of having to wait for vacuum to build up as on the stock CV carb. The TMX carb is not sensitive to Air box vacuum like the stock carb and the box can be differently modified or the carb can be run with a straight Racing Filter for better power.

Yes I would probably go with a bigger carb like that, for 160, I might do it soon!

I was just wondering if it was an easy swap to fuel inject the bike

thanks !
