Question rear brakes 2000 king Quad

When I have been out riding ive noticed my rear brakes are loosening up. I tightened the cable and it did better for a while. I suspect it needs new rear brakes however I can only find front brake pads when I am searching the web. If anyone could give me a link to some rear brakes that would help a ton.

Is it an LT-F300F King Quad? That's the only model I could find for the year 2000

If so, Dennis Kirk has rear brake shoes from 3 brands... (DP, EBC, and Vesrah)

Good luck!

Default Help please on KQ 300

I am looking at a 1994 king quad 300 and the owner said it will need some brakes in the front and rear, but everything else works well. Is it very expensive to do them?

If so how often are the drums the problems?

I checked a few places and the rear drum is about $200.
He is the second owner, the first was a family member, and he mainly uses it on his property to hunt, just like his brother. What else should i look for on this quad. I just purchased a 1992 LT230E is Sept this year and enjoy it but am looking to get into a reasonable and durable 4x4, and people seem to comment on this one like it is a tank. I understand it is not the fasted 4x4 quad (i do not need to be speed demon), just like to do some trail riding like the stuff at Wayne National forest with some moderate amounts of mud.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and info on this quad and potential maintainance items.

have a Merry Christmas

I'm not sure about replacing drums but I am going to have to replace the rear pads for the drum. The price for mine is around $50. I am waiting until spring to replace them so it will be warmer.

Default Brakes and other stuff on King Quad 300

Thanks for the reply, have you done the brakes before?

I have not done brakes on a quad, I have done disc brakes on a care 10 yrs ago and brake shoes on car in the good old days (decades ago), but do not know what you have to take off on these and how many things may be frozen. What year is yours? I do not mind doing shoes but drums at $200 is a bit steep. do you have a manual that specifies when (e.g. min thickness or some other spec) the drums need to be replaced?

I've never done brakes before on mine either. I have a 2000 king quad. I have no manuals but my rear brake basically stopped working so I tightened the cable going to the rear. Since, then the brakes have started getting loose so I figured I needed to replace.

I did eventualy get it apart and look at it. My brake drum has a minimum spec of 180mm for the drum. It measures 181. However the brake shoes are worn to the minimum, so i feel that if i get new shoes i should be good to go. I was able to adjust it so if have about 60-80% braking power. If you do take it apart, be careful when you put it back together that the O-ring seal is seated well on the recessed area on the baking plate so you do not damage it when you press the drum cover over it. Also when you slide the hub over remember to keep the hub rotating to make sure the hub/bearing seal seats it self and does not bind. I am planning on finding some EBC shoes for extra hard use and if possible some with slots.
