2000 King Quad LT-F300FY -- Rear A Boot
 

So...just received my 2000 King Quad LT-F300FY 4x4 last week. Over the weekend...I did a close up inspection. Noticed the right rear axle CV boot is torn. :eek:

So...what happens now???:confused: Am I really needing to remove the right rear suspension swing arm to better inspect??? :(

Those boots are just there for looks. The u-joints are sealed just like on your truck. Does your truck have boots? Do u-joints in the front axle of 4x4 trucks have boots? Have you ever seen a u-joint have a boot except for the 300 king? My boots are torn too. I don't worry about it. Now if the front cv joint boot tears, that's a different story.

Btw if the front boots ever tear, there's a guy on ebay who sells heavy duty boots for a fair price. I ordered a set. They're much thicker than stock.

Never heard of a U joint with a boot. Kinda of stupit how do you grease them if you ever change the u joint to one with a grease fitting.

No you do not take off your rear or front A-Arms you just disconect them from the axle only and swing them out of the way.
They must of just did it do give you a better view in the pic.

Well, on the rear it only has one a-arm, so you couldn't disconnect the spindle from it since its all one piece.

And on the right rear, you may have to disconnect the oil lines to get the swingarm bolt out. I'm not sure.

Its not a super big job since its just a few bolts and big nut on the axle-shaft, but I wouldn't change it. If anything, I'd be more inclined to remove the boot and do like TLC alluded to... install a zerk and grease them periodically.

Whew!!! ;) So happy to hear that. Was not looking forward to taking off the right rear suspension swing arm...just for the boot.

Just a quick report, that the rear boot is still torn, and NO harm to the rear joint or axle. I found that if I just wash it after a hard ride (IE: mud), then all is fine.

This thread was started 5 years ago. So, says that the boot really is only for looks.
