86 LT230G Shaft Drive

I Have a 86 LT230g that when I start it up with the gas on it runs than leaks gas from the carb. When I turn the gas off and use from the bowl it runs fine until empty. I looked at the floot and it is set right.I had a other carb I changed out and it did the same thing. Can someone give me some ideas on fixing this.

Sounds like both carbs have worn out needle and seats. A new carb kit should help this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/85-86-LT230GE-Carburetor-Carb-Kit-LT-230-G-/231152415918?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35d1c1f4ae&vxp=mtr

Thanks for the reply, I did have the first one rebuilt with the kit you have suggested.Anything else I can check or do.

If you had one rebuilt and it still leaks out the over flow, then about the only things left is either the float level is still off,the float and float pin may be worn(rare on leaking floats unless they're metal),or I've even seen over flow tubes split on a few of older ones.

The leak is coming out carb itself where the air filter connects. Should I move the float down more so It shuts the gas down quickier in the bowl?

Best if you have the float setting on your model as a reference, but yes you can do this as a worn float assy or float pin may not shut the fuel off enough even if it's set at the specified height. Had to do that a few times also on old carbs.

I have played around with the float and it still leaks from the over flow tube. When it leaks from the tube I shut off the gas and it runs fine until the bowl is empty. I did turn on the gas for a second to fil the owl and it still runs. But when I keep the gas on it come out of the bottom tube. I tried an other carb. does the same thing. could a line be messed up?

Still sounds like a float level or needle and seat problem if it leaks out of two different carbs through the overflow.Wouldn't think fuel supply is the problem as the needle and seat/float assy are supposed to stop the fuel flow at a specified level before it gets to the over flow tube.

Frist thank you for helping me. I did put a new needle and seat in . Played around with the float adjusting it at all levels. When I have the bowl off and push the float up I do see needle closing. It still is leaking from the over flow tube when I have the gas on. turn the gas off and I can zip around the yard until the bowl is empty. Is their aythig else I can try?

Turning the gas off and it runs good until the bowl's empty is still usually a sign that you're still getting to much fuel into the carb. With a new needle and seat and gasket about the only thing I can think of is still the float level or a worn/wobbly float or float pin. If you noticed that the float pin was worn down any at all it can cause the float to stick and not shut off the fuel as it should. Several videos on float settings, but still best to find what your model sets at with it barely touching the needle valve spring pin.
