That was factory grease. The rollers turn when you take the clutch off.
Check the rollers for flat spots and see if the variator is gouged up in the roller tracts.
I agree, prolly need some rollers.

Quick ? I'm having a heck of a time getting belt back on. Just don't seem to have enough room to get fixed sheave back on crank. The one time I did manage the secondary was locked open afterwards due to the belt holding it open and couldn't get it to close up til I pulled everthing apart. thought I was gonna have to take secondary apart to inspect but after popping belt out it closed back up freely.Am I missing something?? any help appreciated.

these clutches are driving me crazy!! I get everything back together and both clutches are locked up!! I know I must be missing something simple but darned if I know what it is. I bought this quad as somewhat of a basket case, not running and partially disassembled. I got it back together and running pretty well except for the bogging issue on low end and once read this thread I figured I should look into clutches. I removed cover and although secondary seemed to be opening and closing properly I took apart primary and found all the hardened grease and figured this was surely the issue. well now after cleaning and reassembly neither primary or secondary will move! start bike and wheels spin, hit brake and stalls bike. didn't do that before. take secondary off and it opens/closes freely by squeezing. all bearings seem good. the rollers and plate in primary have slight wear but doesn't seem like enough to hold things up at all. my problem I'm sure is with the primary. I am confused as to how this works as the plate that has a slot for key on crank and it just barely catches the key and it seems to me that plate should move back and forth, how do the rollers stay in place if plate is in key?? I dLunno?? downloaded manual but it tells you next to nothing. I need to talk to someone who can make me realize whatever stupid step I am missing. lt80 you do service calls lol. I'm only half joking

Just saw this Jack. I've been so sick, the flue came back in spades. Going to try and get in to the doctor tomorrow. I found that picture, just been to sick to leave the house. Got as wedding Friday, Out side and all.
